Lonely Road
There are many stark and barren roads throughout the Southwest United States. They assist the ghosttowns and old mining camps in creating a very rugged and unique Old West landscape.
Unadorned
This image of a lone tree, in a clearing enveloped in fog, was captured on the top of Mt. Graham in Southeast Arizona, USA.
The Light Of The World
Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see. - Martin Luther King, Jr. This is an image of a cross and church near Phoenix, AZ, USA.
Weathered Sanctuary
This image of an adobe building that has been abandoned and fallen into disrepair, was captured near Phoenix Arizona, USA.
Luminous Chamber
Slot canyons are absolutely stunning sites to visit and study. In these chasms, water continually carves new patterns into the soft sandstone walls, creating breathtaking formations and designs.
Intriguing Ruins
In Arizona and nearby states, there are many Native American ruins. They are very interesting to explore and learn about - certainly quite different from any other type of architecture. This image was captured at Wupatki National Monument, near Flagstaff, AZ. Wupatki is home to over 800 such ruins, built by the Sinagua, Kayenta Anasazi, and Cohonina tribes long ago - a fascinating place to visit!
A Sharp Design
The patterns of a cactus can be quite intriguing when viewed up close. This is a close-up image of the spines on the areoles of a cactus known as the Creeping Devil or Caterpillar Cactus. This image was captured near Phoenix, AZ, USA.
Elegance Unfurls
I found this red rose to be particularly fascinating, with a number of its petals coiling at its base to form a ruffle look. The image was captured in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
Over A Barrel
The blooms of a Barrel Cactus grow in a circular pattern around the top of the plant. The Barrel Cactus is one of the most common cacti in the Southwest and can live to 130 years!
The Scent Of Water
...at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots... Holy Bible, Job 14:9. In the desert, a touch of rain changes the entire landscape - beauty emerges from withered places where one cannot imagine life could still exist. This image was captured in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
Wink Of Daybreak
I felt this was an appropriate name for this image of several African Iris flowers blooming in the early morning hours. Iris blooms have 3 petals that sag downward (or, in some cases, outward) and 3 petals that stand upright. This image was captured in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
The Passion
The Passion Flower plant was named, by early European travelers in America, for the passion of Christ, because the flower structure seemed symbolic of the scourging, crowning with thorns, and crucifixion of Jesus. This image was captured at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
Agave Shark
Marine predator or plant? This is a closeup capture of an Agave plant, of the Succulent family. The image was captured at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona, USA.
